Winterlake Lodge: Packages & Accommodations

Located in South-Central Alaskan Wilderness, United States

Built by hand from logs or split pine by the lodge owners and their staff, the six cabins of Winterlake blend rustic and modern elements and are decorated with artifacts of life on the Alaskan frontier: old-fashioned wood stoves, for instance, and trapping and gold-panning articles found in the area. With plenty of space for extra beds, cabins can be reconfigured to fit up to four or six guests. Each cabin includes a private bathroom, a queen-size bed (with the option of adding beds), a shared living room, a porch, and stunning views.

Guests create a custom package based on a minimum two-night stay. Upon requesting a reservation, one of our reservation specialists will contact you to help you select the accommodation option that is best for you and to confirm the reservation.

A Taste of Wild Alaska

Designed for National Geographic

We’ve collaborated with Tutka Bay Lodge and Winterlake Lodge—sister properties of the Within the Wild company—to design this six-night itinerary exclusively for National Geographic. The package includes seaplane flights between the two lodges, as well as ferry, ground, and air transfers to and from the Anchorage airport, all meals, and a wide selection of excursions that can be tailored to fit your interests.

  • Soar in a helicopter above the towering peaks of the Alaska Range, touching down in the backcountry to watch for wildlife, trek on glaciers, go white-water rafting or fly-fishing, and more.
  • Rise early and set out with a Winterlake guide on a private photography excursion to capture wildlife in their morning rituals and the mountains aglow at dawn
  • Enjoy a private sea-to-table gourmet dinner prepared in a repurposed crabbing boat, and receive a complimentary cookbook written by acclaimed chef and Tutka lodge owner Kirsten Dixon (National Geographic Exclusive).
  • Seek out brown bears in the wilds of the Katmai Peninsula, or go deep-sea fishing for salmon and halibut in Kachemak Bay.

Accommodations

  • Fireweed Cabin

This roomy cabin is perched at the east end of our dock, offering beautiful views of the lake and Trimble glacier. The cabin's two bedrooms each have a private bathroom and a queen-size bed, and there’s enough room for additional beds to accommodate a family of four or five.

  • Red Lake Trail Cabin

Located on the west side of the lodge grounds, Red Lake Trail Cabin is one of the property’s original log cabins, renovated in 2010. It sleeps up to seven people in three bedrooms, each with a private bathroom, a sitting area, and a queen-size bed; and two of which accommodate extra single beds (if requested). The cabin's sunset views are unforgettable.

  • Iditarod Cabin

Built by the owners using peeled logs they cut themselves, this cabin features large picture windows and a small deck with a great view of the rising sun. The cabin offers a queen-size bed and one twin-bed in a loft area, as well as a spacious bathroom.

  • Mountain Pass Cabin

The closest to the main lodge, Mountain Pass Cabin offers a log queen-size log bed, a private roomy bathroom, a comfy open-style living room, and a deck.

  • Happy River Cabin

Happy River Cabin is situated along the hiking trail to Red Lake. Along with a log bed, a bathroom, and an open-style living room, the cabin offers stunning views of the lake.
