The Ranch at Rock Creek: The Experience

Located in Western Montana Wilderness, United States

Whether you’re a seasoned fly-fisher seeking the perfect peace of a remote stream, an avid hiker, or simply a family in search of an authentic ranch experience, there is much to do at The Ranch at Rock Creek. The lodge offers twice-daily guided adventures throughout the four seasons. On a typical day, you might go for a morning hike, spend an afternoon on horseback or learning how to geocache, sit down to an exquisite meal, and end the evening playing games by the fire.

Things to Do

Activity inclusions vary by rate type and package. Please inquire with the lodge when requesting your reservation.

Horseback Riding

More than just going on a trail ride, guests are able to see miles into the National Forest, participate in roping lessons and barnyard games, and go on a stagecoach or sleigh ride.

Target Sports

Test your aim through a variety of target sports: trap and skeet, pistols, rifle, sporting clays, and 3D archery.

Fly Fishing

Wade into Rock Creek’s sparkling waters with a fishing guide and try your luck at catching (and releasing) some of the seven species that live in this Blue Ribbon stream, including Westslope cutthroat, rainbow trout, and the Rocky Mountain whitefish. Amateurs will learn techniques for tying a fly and casting.

Ropes Course

An on-site ropes course makes for a fun and thought-provoking activity. The course includes 40-foot obstacle challenges, the Leap-of-Faith, three zip lines, and low-ropes team building.

Trail Adventures

Ride trails on a mountain bike, go hiking or look for wildlife on a nature walk, or explore the area in a Jeep. Learn about the phenomenon of geocaching, and participate in a real-world treasure hunt.

Leisure Activities

Go stargazing or take a nature walk, enjoy a bowling game at the lodge’s four lanes, play games, or sing karaoke.

Winter Sports

Visitors in winter enjoy a full range of activities: cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice skating, hockey games, sledding, geocaching, snow cat tours, and sleigh rides. Guests enjoy complimentary downhill skiing at Discovery Ski Area with The Ranch Ski Concierge.

Historic Montana

Hear tales of the Old West on a ghost town tour, visit a working sapphire mine, or see the historic sites of Philipsburg.

Yoga Sessions

Take part in an hour-long yoga session in the fitness studio in the Carriage House. Or ride a Jeep to the “Top of the World” to enjoy an hour of Asana while taking in the vistas from the mountaintop. New this year, snowshoe to the top of the mountain for "Snowga"! A customized yoga class to sync you with the senses of winter. Warm tea provided at the top of the mountain to replenish your body.

Helicopter Adventures

Take a helicopter tour of Yellowstone or Glacier National Park, or fly to a remote spot for backcountry fishing or backcountry hiking.

Outdoor Sports

Ranch staff and local providers offer scenic raft trips, fishing float trips, kayaking excursions, hot air balloon rides, four-wheeler tours, golf, and downhill skiing.

Food and Drink

Executive Chef Josh Drage presents superb gourmet cuisine featuring 90% local ingredients, as well as creative dining experiences like Chef’s Grill on the flagstone and multicourse tasting menus. He and his staff seek to create a week-long series of unique eating experiences, so that guests have the opportunity to not only experience different foods from the region, but also very diverse styles of cooking and presentation. You may enjoy a sophisticated, wine-paired tasting menu one night; a barbecue the next; and typical Montana comfort food served on Sundays.

All wines and drinks during meals or in the Silver Dollar Saloon are included, and coffee, tea, and snacks are available throughout the day. Cocktail hour with an amuse-bouche is hosted daily in the Great Room prior to dinner.

The Spa

The Granite Spa offers a range of services designed to care for the body, mind, and spirit. An experienced staff of licensed massage therapists and technicians offer massages, facials, body work, and nail and hair services, as well as customized treatments such as the Rock Creek Custom Facial and Ritual Body Treatments and the Saddle Sore Soak. The spa uses luxurious bath and skincare products sourced from providers in Montana and Colorado.
