Experience unparalleled luxury behind rustic cabin walls.
Due south of Glacier National Park, in a secluded valley split by the sparkling waters of Rock Creek, lies a working cattle ranch where the spirit of old Montana is alive and well. The Ranch at Rock Creek is subtly extraordinary: a five-star luxury experience that takes place within weathered barns and log cabins, where the guests are typically dressed in jeans or waders, and an incomparable culinary adventure is also relaxed and fun.
Spend your day with top-notch guides, fly-fishing in cool mountain streams teeming with trout or riding horseback through the hills. Hike or mountain bike on empty trails, or test your skills with a bow and arrow. Come winter, The Ranch becomes a snowy wonderland ready to be discovered by snowshoe, cross-country ski, or horse-drawn sleigh. The Ranch holds its own rodeo every week during the summer, and guests can experience more of Montanan life on visits to a nearby sapphire mine or the historic town of Philipsburg. Finish the day with an exquisite meal paired with fine wines and fall asleep in exceptional comfort to the sound of the creek murmuring past your door.
This 6,600-acre ranch offers up all that is authentically Montana, creatively blending elegant and rustic, informal and world-class. Settle into your own private log house, go “glamping” in a canvas cabin, or stay in the cozy main lodge: every accommodation is stunningly decorated with western antiques, period fabrics, and vestiges of the days when this part of Montana was filled with pioneers and silver miners. The year-round staff are mostly Montanans, dedicated to The Ranch, and eager to share its history and that of the region.
The culinary experience at The Ranch is outstanding, with a highly skilled and enthusiastic chef who not only takes the idea of farm-to-table very seriously, but goes to great lengths to source his products responsibly, always going for the most local that he can. The architecture is very much in keeping with the local vernacular: all buildings have been built from reclaimed wood and fit discreetly into the landscape. Among many other thoughtful touches, a great collection of old photographs from the area helps create a strong sense of western culture and ranch life.
When you reserve your space through National Geographic Unique Lodges, you’ll be hosted by the lodge’s ranch ambassador on a private excursion to one of The Ranch’s highest peaks. You may choose to set out on foot or ride in an all-terrain vehicle up to a mountain summit or scenic overlook, where you’ll sit down to a delicious picnic breakfast or lunch, or enjoy refreshments as you watch the sunrise over the Rockies. Hear the history of The Ranch’s homesteaders and the surrounding area along the way.
This working ranch is also home to moose, deer, elk, eagles, wolves, and big horn sheep, not to mention the Blue Ribbon trout stream that flows through the property. The Ranch at Rock Creek has repurposed traditional buildings such as old stables into innovative guest accommodations, using reclaimed timber and fittings and keeping the character of old Montana. Many of the products used on property and in the restaurant—including soaps, shampoos, and spa products—are made from locally and regionally sourced organic ingredients.
The Ranch is actively engaged in preserving cultural heritage in nearby Philipsburg, supporting the historic opera house, the hospital, and a variety of community initiatives. They have even been known to host a prom dinner for the high schoolers in town.
