Siwash Lake Wilderness Resort: The Experience

Located in British Columbia, Canada

As part of Siwash's award-winning equestrian program, guests are matched with a steed that is handpicked to suit their riding skills.

Learn the art of fly-casting as you catch—and then release—trophy-sized rainbow trout in the ranch's rearing pond, or set out with an angling guide to fish in one of many nearby rivers.

The ranch's waterfalls, meadows, and forests create a natural playground where kids can interact and learn about the environment.

Sharpen your aim through a variety of target sports: fixed and animated target shooting, skeet, and 3D cross-terrain archery.

Set out on a private helicopter adventure into the British Columbian backcountry to discover remote mountains and deep river gorges.

Go beyond the trail on a high-alpine hiking excursion.

Learn the basics of surviving in the backwoods during a half-day training trip. Build a natural shelter, light a campfire using a bow drill, and forage for food and water.

Pan for gold on a helicopter excursion to a remote river gorge.

See the Cariboo wilderness from above as you soar above the British Columbian wilderness.

The ranch’s horse trails double as hiking and mountain-biking paths. With more than 60 miles of trails of varying lengths and difficulty—and river canyons, rocky bluffs, meadows, lush refugia, and striking snag forests to trek or pedal through—there are numerous ways to explore the wilderness by bike or on foot.

Siwash’s world-class equestrian program sets this lodge apart from the typical dude ranch. Avid riders and beginners alike can spend their days honing their skills in the riding arena and exploring the property’s 60-mile network of trails. When out of the saddle, there are plenty of ways to immerse yourself in the pristine British Columbia wilderness. Try fly-fishing in trout-filled lakes, or skim across their shimmering waters in a kayak or canoe. Practice yoga, archery, or skeet shooting in meadows bright with wildflowers; or learn about fire ecology on a guided Naturalist's walk to a secluded set of waterfalls.

The exquisite pasture-to-plate cuisine at Siwash is inspired by the ranch and its natural surroundings. Gourmet dishes are created using homegrown ingredients harvested from the ranch garden. The chef and his kitchen staff regularly forage the surrounding woodlands for wild herbs and berries, and they make it their mission to employ these gathered edibles in every meal. Meals are served in the dining room, on the sundeck, or at a candlelit table in a lakeside meadow. Gourmet picnics can also be packed for guests to enjoy while out on their daily adventures.
