Little St. Simons Island is a private isle located just off the coast of Georgia and accessible only by boat. Complimentary ferries to the Lodge on Little St. Simons Island depart at scheduled times from Hampton River Marina on St. Simons Island, which is within a 90-minute drive of the Savannah and Jacksonville international airports and the Brunswick regional airport. It is recommended that you use a car service to transfer from the airport to the marina, as private vehicles are not permitted on Little St. Simons Island.
Little St. Simons Island is undeveloped—save for a cluster of guest and staff buildings—and the nearest stores are situated on neighboring St. Simons Island. Food and supplies are delivered to the lodge by ferry weekly, and some clothing items are available for purchase at the lodge gift shop. Cellular service on the island is available for the most part, and Wi-Fi is available at all guest buildings. Please note that there are no paved roads on the island, and lodge buildings are connected by wooden boardwalks or gravel paths.
Owing to the island’s subtropical climate, the Lodge on Little St. Simons Island is open to guests year-round. Temperatures can be hot and humid during the summer months, while winter temperatures rarely drop below 40°F. It rains frequently, and mosquitos and other flying insects are common.
“Comfortable, casual, and functional” is the dress code at the lodge. Be prepared to spend most of your day outdoors, and pack accordingly. If you’re traveling in the warmer, wetter months, bring light, long-sleeved shirts and long pants to protect yourself from insect bites, in addition to swimsuits and beach wear. Insect repellent, ponchos, umbrellas, sunscreen, and beach towels are available to guests on a complimentary basis. The lodge also provides a variety of fishing equipment, and Georgia state fishing licenses may be purchased.
The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island offers convenient cottage accommodations for families, as well as a wealth of engaging activities for children, from birding trips and kayaking to turtle walks and beachcombing. The minimum recommended age for young guests is 6, though children between the ages of 3 and 6 are welcome from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
