Kapari Natural Resort: About

Located in Santorini, Greece

Stacked against the hillside among the highest bluffs on the Greek island of Santorini, Kapari Natural Resort is a testament to the timeless culture of the Cyclades. Founders Rena and Takis Adamidis set out 40 years ago to refurbish 300-year-old cliff-side cave dwellings that had been in their family for decades. What they created is a thing of beauty, a hamlet of cubist forms that spill down the hillside in stunning terraces and balconies, softened by rock archways and whitewashed nooks where minimalism meets an ancient architectural style.

Kapari is ideally located in the quiet village of Imerovigli on cliff top trail that stretches for miles along the coast. With just 14 rooms, exceptional views of the volcanic caldera, a genuine and warm staff, and a small but sought-after restaurant, Kapari is an intimate encounter with the best of Santorini.

Why We Love This Lodge

“Kapari” is the Greek word for caper, the flower bud that grows wild across Santorini and is an integral ingredient in local cuisine. The resort is similarly homegrown: family-owned and operated, Kapari is a sanctuary of Santorinian culture on an island that is the second most visited site in Greece, and has in some ways been redefined by tourism.

Traditional building materials were used in the construction and interior decoration of Kapari. Each earth-toned, rock-carved room is sophisticated and modern yet conveys a sense of timelessness and history. The lodge distinguishes itself from neighboring hotels by its strong emphasis on traditional Greek hospitality and a very high level of personal service and attention.

  • Immerse yourself in the peace and romance of your whitewashed room, where organic lines and soft lighting set off the magnificent views.
  • Sail into the caldera on an afternoon cruise after lunch right on the waterfront.
  • Soak in the infinity pool or hot tub looking out at the caldera and its islands far below.
  • Enjoy delicious, copious breakfasts and sample exquisite Greek cuisine in the acclaimed restaurant.
  • Relax in a lounge chair on the balcony of the bar, enjoying coffee or a drink that comes with a view.

National Geographic Exclusive

Each of our lodges has created a special complimentary experience offered exclusively to guests who visit through a National Geographic Expedition. At Kapari Natural Resort, National Geographic guests are invited to pay a visit to a nearby farm where much of the fresh produce used in Kapari’s kitchen is sourced. Meet the farmer, whose roots on the island go back generations, and learn about his organic growing techniques on a tour of his property. Sample a variety of seasonal fruit and vegetables plucked right from the gardens as you explore.

Spotlight on Sustainability

Kapari was built out of centuries-old structures using traditional materials—an elaborate restoration project aimed at reclaiming and sustaining the authentic character of Santorini. That mission percolates through the lodge operations as well, as the owners support local food producers, embrace Greek and Cycladic cuisine, and engage native Santorinians as guides.

Kapari uses smart technology meters in each of its guest rooms to help reduce energy use, along with a geothermal heat pump system to minimize electricity and hot water consumption. The lodge also plays an active role in community initiatives to further develop sustainable tourism on Santorini.
