Spot the likes of sea turtles and fluorescent fish while snorkeling along the colorful coral gardens of the Andros Barrier Reef, or swim through the deep waters of a coastal blue hole. Enjoy a complimentary daily snorkeling excursion, and explore a new patch of sea with each outing.
Get out on the water with one of the lodge boats, choosing from a fleet that includes kayaks, a glass canoe, paddleboards, trimarans, a FunCat electric catamaran, and a Hobie Cat sailing catamaran. Experts are on hand to give boating lessons to beginners. Guests who feel comfortable with their vessels can set out to explore the surrounding waters. Cruise the bight and tie up at the entrance to “The Crack”—a deep underwater crevasse that leads to the island’s string of inland blue holes—and swim or snorkel through its marine life-rich waters.
Tiamo has nearly four miles of private beach bordered by calm waters that are ideal for swimming. Stroll a short distance down the coast for total privacy, or stay close to the lodge for easy access to refreshments. Beach butlers are standing by, ready to serve you at your waterfront lounger or hammock. Just raise the provided red flag to signal to attendants.
Hike the trails that wind inland through Tiamo’s property, navigating with the help of maps provided by the lodge. Borrow binoculars for your walk, and spot some of the island’s more than 300 bird species.
Pick a patch of sand and gather for a game of bocce ball, using equipment provided by the lodge.
Andros Island is known as the “bonefishing capital of the world,” its vast coastal flats and inland waterways teeming with these silvery fish. Wade out from the shoreline or set out on a shallow draft boat for world-class, catch-and-release bonefishing. Full- and half-day excursions are available.
Venture into deeper waters to fish in the trench known as the Tongue of the Ocean, an area that is not commercially fished. Angle for snapper, grouper, and mahi mahi from a 28-foot power catamaran on a half- or full-day expedition. Bring your catch back to the lodge, where Chef Keith can cook it up for your dinner.
Tiamo hosts a Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) center, which offers certification courses for all levels. Divers can set out with Tiamo’s dive master to explore the wildlife-rich waters that harbor the Andros Barrier Reef, located a 10-minute boat ride from the lodge. Just beyond the reef, try a fantastic wall dive in the Tongue of the Ocean, or explore the underwater caves in a mysterious oceanic blue hole.
Discover Andros Island’s wild western coast, blanketed in thick mangrove forests and home to the West Side National Park. Spot an array of marine life, from tarpons and sea turtles to sharks and dolphins, and seek out birds flitting through the coastal treetops. A seasoned naturalist will accompany you, explaining the differences between the ecosystems of west coast and those of the east, as well as distinct wildlife that reside in each environment.
Spend a half or full day out on the lodge power boat, water skiing or wake-boarding across turquoise waters, or stopping at the reef to snorkel. Closer to shore, explore coastal mangrove forests, teeming with marine and bird life.

During Tiamo’s annual fall closing, Michelin-trained Chef Keith travels to France, where he trains with the giants of the culinary world. He returns home each November to experiment with new flavors and cutting-edge preparation techniques, revamping the lodge’s ever evolving menu. Tiamo’s Caribbean fusion dishes reflect Chef Keith’s Andros Island roots, combining fresh, organic ingredients from the surrounding environment with an array of international flavors. From your first taste of tiger prawn ceviche to the final bites of sour sop panna cotta, a meal at Tiamo is a foray into haute Bahamian cuisine.
