When record numbers of rhinos are being slaughtered in South Africa, extraordinary measures are in order. Earlier this year, Rhinos Without Borders began a massive airlift of these endangered creatures from unprotected parts of South Africa where poaching is rife to safe havens in Botswana. The organization is a collaboration of Great Plains Conservation—the company behind Zarafa Camp and our two Unique Lodges in Kenya—and AndBeyond, and the airlift effort is funded in part by proceeds from the lodges.
Great Plains Conservation founders and National Geographic Explorers-in-Residence Dereck and Beverly Joubert helped engineer the historic airlift and filmed the action in the field. Follow their journey in the video below.
