The lodge’s private airstrip receives charter flights from Cape Town. The flight lasts 60 minutes and is followed by a 20-minute, complimentary ground transfer to Bushmans Kloof.
Bushmans Kloof is located just over 160 miles from Cape Town. The scenic, three-hour drive takes travelers through sweeping scrublands framed by twisted rock formations and over the Pakhuis Pass. The lodge can arrange minibus and private transfers between the lodge and Cape Town for an extra charge.
Bushmans is located on a secluded nature reserve with no cellular phone service. The expansive property is malaria- and predator-free, allowing guests the freedom to explore the grounds independently.
Visitors with mobility limitations can be accommodated in rooms located in close proximity to the reception area. Many parts of the property may not be handicap-friendly, including grassy or rocky terrain and places only accessible by stairs or stone-chip pathways. There is a clinic in the main lodge, which is used to treat minor injuries. Ambulances and helicopters can access the property in the event of medical emergencies.
Summer months in the Cederberg Mountains span mid-October through mid-February and are typically hot, with average daytime highs reaching 85°F, making this a good season for water-based activities like canoeing, fly-fishing, and swimming. Evenings during this time of year are long and temperate, and early dawns are ideal for bird-watching. Winter (June through August) sees cooler days (average 68°F) and nights (average 45°F)—perfect for biking, hiking, and nature-based excursions during the day, followed by evenings spent around the fire. Fynbos blooms can be seen year-round, but peak between July and October.
Guests should pack appropriately for the season. During the hot summer months (mid-October through mid-February), bring lightweight clothing, sunglasses, and a hat. Those visiting during winter’s cooler months (June through August) should pack in layers to accommodate a greater range of temperatures. Other useful items include hiking boots, swimwear, sunscreen, and a camera. Insect repellent is provided by the lodge, and binoculars are available upon request.
The lodge invites guests to save room in their suitcases for donations to Pack for a Purpose. The charitable group accepts school and medical supplies from travelers visiting developing areas and distributes these contributions to organizations in need.

Bushmans Kloof has a range of family-friendly excursions, including activities like hiking, canoeing, swimming, biking, and nature walks.
