Sample Itinerary

Please note that in order to preserve the archipelago’s fragile ecosystems, guided excursions in the islands are regulated daily by the Galápagos National Park Service and are subject to change.

Day 1: Baltra, Galápagos/Santa Cruz

Depart from Quito or Guayaquil on a morning flight to Baltra Island, Galápagos. A guide from Finch Bay Galápagos Hotel will meet you at the airport and escort you via ferry and ground transfer to Santa Cruz Island. Upon arrival on Santa Cruz, venture into the highlands with your guide to encounter Galápagos giant tortoises in the wild at El Manzanillo ranch. Following a delicious lunch at the ranch, continue to Puerto Ayora, where a water taxi brings you to Finch Bay. Take time to settle into your garden-view room, and perhaps take a stroll on the beach or go for a swim. In the late afternoon, enjoy a delectable experience offered exclusively to National Geographic travelers—a private cooking class with the lodge’s executive chef or sous chef. Learn how to make authentic ceviche using fresh seafood and herbs from the lodge’s organic garden. Then enjoy your tasty creation, paired with homemade plantain chips and Ecuadorian beer, as you relax by the pool. Continue your culinary exploration this evening in the restaurant, where the menu features an array of locally inspired dishes. (Lunch, Dinner)

Days 2 and 3: Exploring the Galápagos Islands

Board Finch Bay’s private yacht, the Sea Lion, and join a team of seasoned naturalists and crew members on full-day excursions to neighboring islands. Options typically include the wildlife-rich isles of North Seymour, Bartolomé, South Plaza, and Santa Fe. Walk along white-sand shores where sea lions sunbathe, observe the unique behaviors of blue-footed boobies and frigate birds, and encounter other endemic species while hiking amid volcanic landscapes. Enjoy a freshly prepared buffet lunch on board, served in the air-conditioned interior or on deck. Later, don your mask and fins to explore a magical undersea world, on the lookout for sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, reef sharks, and much more. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4: Santa Cruz

Discover the natural wonders of Santa Cruz, choosing from a variety of guided excursions. Set out with a naturalist to explore either Tortuga Bay or El Garrapatero—two of the most beautiful beaches in the Galápagos. The pristine shores of Tortuga Bay serve as a sanctuary for sea turtles and marine iguanas, while Garrapatero’s secluded cove features mangrove trees, volcanic rock formations, and a lagoon teeming with birdlife. After exploring along the shore, head inland to visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, where giant tortoise hatchlings are raised for repatriation to the islands. Get an intimate look these iconic creatures while walking amid open-air enclosures, and learn about the work being done to study and protect Galápagos wildlife. Later, back at the lodge, take a refreshing dip in the pool, unwind in a hammock, or set out by kayak to explore the island’s dramatic coastline. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5: Depart

Enjoy one last breakfast before departing via ferry and ground transfers to Baltra Airport, where you’ll connect with your return flight to mainland Ecuador. (Breakfast)
